Our high quality of care and support with this program isn't scaled back because of the size of the program but instead rivals all of our programs. The In-Home Support program is aimed at keeping individuals in the least restrictive environment possible. We always say our job is to put ourselves out of a job, to support individuals to a point where they no longer need us for support. The In-Home Support program is the closest thing to achieving that ideal. Caregivers hired to perform health services must be licensed to practice their health care discipline in the state of Maine. Home health services may be an option for you or a loved one that needs assistance with personal care services and older adults that show the vital signs of mental health challenges.

Section 21 and 29 Waiver Services
MAS Community Health provides innovative behavioral health therapies and exceptional service by listening and adapting to the needs we see in the Maine communities we proudly serve. We provide the full range of our services in the Maine behavioral health community, in client homes, at schools and at any of the MAS locations. MaineCare servicesare available to children whoreceive health care coverage from MaineCare or have the Katie Beckett Waiver. In-Home Support is a residential program offered to individuals receiving MaineCare through Sections 20, 21, and 29 waiver programs.
Providers must obtain criminal history information of employees and must not hire those who are prohibited from working in home care. This includes individuals who have abused, neglected or misappropriated the property of individuals in a health setting. If you are over 65, a veteran or disabled, you might qualify for property tax relief. Seniors who are eligible for homestead exemptions in Maine can receive tax relief of $25,000. To qualify, you must have owned the homestead property for at least 12 months and it must be your primary residence. Veterans over 62 who have served in a war can get $6,000 in tax relief, while paraplegic veterans can access up to $50,000.

Personal Care Assistance is for elderly clients for whom Homemaker Service is not quite enough to meet their unique needs. Our Homemaker Service is specifically designed for senior citizens who only need a hand with daily housekeeping tasks. Typically, that might include errands, light housekeeping, meal preparation, etc. We will work well with others in the interest of the individuals and families we support. We will work with you and your child, the school system, case manager and all other team members to develop a plan that delivers results.

Independent Support Services
This can include making modifications to the home to make it safe or using technology that allows the senior to call for help if needed. MaineHousing, Maine’s state housing authority, has a Home and Accessibility Repair Program available to low-income homeowners in the state. The program provides grants to help people make necessary home repairs and modifications. This can include a wide range of improvements designed to help people with disabilities or those with physical barriers to living independently at home, including wheelchair ramps and bathroom modifications. The average cost of in-home care in Maine is $5,117 per month, according to Genworth Financial’s Cost of Care 2019 Survey.

If outpatient treatment is being utilized, ask the provider if they will do some sessions in the home. CBHS may be able to assist with barriers if outpatient providers travel to the family homes. Adults 18 and older who are seeking voluntary case management services will be determined eligible based on psychological reports, diagnosis and other records .
While the above programs help many people finance in-home care, they will not cover all costs for everyone. All clinical treatment settings can and should work directly with caregivers to assist them in learning skills to understand and manage the youth behaviors. Referrals can be made, with your permission, by children's case managers, schools, families and other agencies such as Adult Protective Services.
You must live at home or an abode of your own choosing (acute care hospital, long-term care facilities, and licensed community care facilities are not considered "own home"). Home health care providers are entities that provide health services through professional nursing or therapeutic services. They can also provide non-clinical support such as personal care services. In any situation, the support required is less than the 24/7 coverage needed for a Group Home or Shared Living residential model.
